Today Is International Peace

Today Is International Peace
International Day of Peace celebrations are underway, and in less than a week, Roots & Shoots members and friends will be picking up their Giant Peace Dove Puppets and carrying them at events around the globe to show their committment to peace for all—people, animals and the environment.

Each year on September 21, and the days before and after, people around the world recognize a global ceasefire to honor peace. This year is particularly important as it marks the 30th anniversary of the United Nations resolution that established the annual International Day of Peace.

As a United Nations Messenger of Peace, Dr. Jane calls Roots & Shoots to celebrate Day of Peace in their communities by creating and flying the signature Roots & Shoots Giant Peace Dove Puppets, as well as with projects the support and promote peace. With their greatest creativity, Roots & Shoots members come up with all kinds of things to celebrate. Search for "peace" in the Project Database to see some of what they've come up with.In addition, Dr. Jane will also attend the annual observance of the International Day of Peace at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Joined by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, and other UN Messengers of Peace and Goodwill Ambassadors, Dr. Jane will honor and recognize this very special anniversary for the International Day of Peace, and participate in dialogue with more than 500 people about this year's United Nation's Day of Peace Theme, "Peace and Democracy: Let Your Voice Be Heard."
