Today's Google Doodle Is An Animated Delight
A Google has decided to jazz up its homepage with a Gumby-inspired Google doodle, celebrating Gumby creator Art Clokey's 90th birthday.
Clokey, who died in 2010, may not be well known outside the USA - well we hadn't heard of him anyway - however the Detroit-born animator shot to fame for his creation Gumby; the star of the Gumby show.
The show began in November 1955 and ran with for 35 years, before having a further boost in popularity in the 1980s when, the then very cool, Eddie Murphy impersonated him on Saturday Night Live.
Art Clokey also produced Gumbasia, an animation set to music which parodied Walt Disney's Fantasia. The doodle itself was created by animator Anthony Scott who also worked on Coraline and the Corpse Bride.
